Rooted in Hope and Dignity:
Family Engagement
Our Approach
A Shift in Perspective
The journey of transformation often leads us to reevaluate our methods and embrace new paths. At the Kkumi Project, this realization came through an evolving understanding of the critical role that families play in nurturing a child's growth and potential. We've realized that children deserve to grow up in the loving embrace of a family, rather than institutions. Shockingly, most children in institutionalized care have families, often separated due to financial poverty. Our focus has thus shifted towards empowering families, promoting their dignity, and igniting hope for a future beyond poverty's grasp.
Did you know that 80% of children in orphanages have families? Often, separation is a result of financial struggles, not a lack of love. Our focus is on identifying and addressing these challenges, with the goal of keeping families together. We firmly believe that nothing is more significant to a child's development than the love of a family—a sense of belonging that provides lifelong hope and a rooted identity.
How We Do It
Kkumi Men and Women Connect Gatherings
In these separate yet parallel events that happen every other month, within the Kkumi Project family comes together in a spirit of unity, fellowship, and mutual support. Through tea and snacks, laughter, and shared stories, Kkumi Men/Women Connect isn't just about socializing; it's about growing together. These gatherings recognize that men and women, as caregivers and mentors, play indispensable roles in shaping the boys' lives. As they empower each other, they contribute to the creation of a nurturing environment where families flourish and children thrive. This dedicated time serves as a reminder that our impact reaches beyond individual journeys—it extends to the collective strength of a community united by a shared vision of transformation and hope.
Building Community One Meal At a Time
At the Kkumi Project, the act of gathering around a table is more than just sharing a meal—it's a gesture that weaves the threads of community tighter and creates lasting bonds. Our Quarterly Family Dinners are a reflection of the diverse and vibrant tapestry that is the Kkumi Project community. Inviting families, both old and new, leaders from our partner church, influencers from the Ssenge community, and the incredible partners who stand alongside us daily. These dinners are a celebration of abundance, both in terms of food and in the richness of relationships. Our hope is that every person who joins us for this time leaves with more than a satisfied appetite. We want them to carry a renewed sense of belonging, a deeper connection to the community, and a strengthened belief in the power of unity. Through these gatherings, we're not just sharing meals; we're nourishing the very essence of our community.
Family Field Visits
Our Family Field Visits are rooted in the belief that true transformation grows from deep relationships. Beyond financial support and resources, we recognize the importance of getting to know the families we serve on a personal level. We're not just passing through; we're investing our time, attention, and care into their lives. During each visit, our team steps into the lives of these families, bearing not just assistance but genuine concern. We engage in meaningful conversations, offering a listening ear to their joys, concerns, and aspirations. We share stories, we laugh, and we cry together. More than that, we provide support and guidance on biblical parenting, spiritual growth, and holistic family well-being. Our Family Field Visits are more than check-ins; they are moments of encouragement and empowerment. Through heartfelt prayers, shared wisdom, and the assurance that we're walking this journey together, we aim to kindle a fire of hope within these families.
Men’s Conference
Our vision at the Kkumi Project extends beyond the individual—it encompasses a collective transformation that starts with nurturing young boys into men of strength, empathy, integrity, and leadership. Our Men's Conference is a gathering that echoes with a resounding call to empower men, fathers, and leaders within the Kkumi family. Our commitment to guiding boys on a transformative path goes hand in hand with empowering men who play pivotal roles in their lives. The Men's Conference is a testament to this commitment—a dedicated space where fathers of Kkumi Project boys and other men within the community come together to embrace their God-given responsibilities. Fatherlessness is a profound issue that echoes across Uganda. We recognize the importance of nurturing men who are not just fathers by biology, but fathers in spirit and action. As men embrace their God-given roles, they shape a new era—one characterized by strong families, empathetic communities, and empowered leadership.
Fostering Independence: Join us!
We aspire to empower families to stand on their own, to become self-sustaining, and to break free from cycles of dependency. As we provide guidance and support, we also lay the foundation for them to become agents of change within their own households and communities. The relationships we build transcend transactional aid; they are bridges to a future where families thrive and children grow in the embrace of love and stability.
